Playstyles in Rebel Galaxy Outlaw are akin to difficulty modes. Once selected at the beginning of a new game, a playstyle is set for the course of the game and cannot be adjusted.
While similar to difficulty modes, they do not affect ally or enemy skill levels or any aspects of any ships or their systems. Ships don't become stronger or weaker; difficulty in that sense is identical between playstyles. Instead, a playstyle determines the availability of certain game features that can make play easier or harder as well as Juno's starting resources and ship equipment.
Available playstyles[]
There are four available playstyles, listed and described here in order of difficulty from easiest to hardest.
Normal[]
The developers recommend the normal playstyle for most players.
It offers the most generous starting gear and resources:
- Ranger LS 31 Colour Radar: Signifies enemies in red and allies in blue.
- Combat Laser
- HS Launcher
- Plastine Armour
- Shield Generator I
- Afterburner
- 4000 Credits
Veteran[]
The veteran playstyle is intended for experienced space sim players.
The starting gear is a little more spartan:
- Optimus Mk2 Black and White Radar: Does not provide any friend or foe identification.
- Utility Laser
- Plastine Armour
- Shield Generator I
- 4000 Credits
Players can toggle between first and third person views at all.
Sim[]
The sim playstyle is intended for devoted fans of space sims.
The starting gear is the same as in the Veteran playstyle, but:
- The third person view is unavailable. Players are limited to the cockpit view.
- Aim Assist is unavailable.
Old School[]
The old school playstyle provides the most difficult experience.
The starting gear and feature limitations are the same as in the Sim playstyle, except that the Autopursuit (flight assist) feature is unavailable.
